“Shadows in the Rain”

I see ghosts and shadows in the night rain.

Forced face-first to look upon the truth of misty dread.

Ambiguous curtains of gossamer rising up to the blinking street lamps.

The sound of salacious streetcars named desire.

The approach of driving sound,

and then a gushing sssssfffffttttt,

trailing off into the distance.

Rain rhythms,

lulling hypnotic and flooding avenues.

Charged with darkness and the associated ideas.

Harsh laughter,

reminding the lifers,

that no one,

absolutely no one,

gets out alive.
